Sunderland set for a surprise exit – with midfielder heading to the Premier League

Sunderland’s young talent, Josh Robertson, is on the brink of finalizing an unexpected transfer to Premier League outfit Brighton on the deadline day. The 18-year-old attacking midfielder is presently undergoing a medical examination on the south coast before completing his move to the Seagulls.

Robertson, who has just six months left on his contract with Sunderland, was anticipated to play in their FA Youth Cup match against Swindon Town tomorrow. However, he has been granted permission to travel south, with Sunderland expected to receive a transfer fee for the player who has been part of their academy since the age of nine. Despite recent departures of promising youngsters, Sunderland managed to retain Chris Rigg and Tom Watson last summer despite outside interest.

Nevertheless, Robertson appears set to depart, with Brighton apparently convincing the teenager to join their development setup to advance his career prospects.
