Ipswich Town eyeing deal for Germany star

Ipswich Town is actively pursuing a spot in the Championship’s top two by the season’s end. In the final days of the January transfer window, they’re intensifying efforts to strengthen their squad and enhance their promotion prospects.

Under Kieran McKenna’s management, the team has already secured three new signings this month. Jeremy Sarmiento and Lewis Travis joined on loan from Brighton and Blackburn Rovers, respectively, while Ali Al-Hamadi completed a permanent move from AFC Wimbledon.

However, their recruitment drive isn’t over yet. Reports from Fussball.News indicate Ipswich’s interest in Eintracht Frankfurt striker Ngankam. The 23-year-old, who has made 23 appearances for the Bundesliga side, scoring three goals and providing one assist, is reportedly available for loan this month.

In addition to Ipswich Town, Premier League side Luton Town and Belgian top-tier club Royal Antwerp are also said to be pursuing Ngankam’s signature, suggesting stiff competition for his services in the transfer market.

Not what they need

With the recent signing of Al-Hamadi, McKenna is likely banking on him to provide the goals needed for Ipswich Town’s promotion push. However, bringing in a striker who has only scored three goals in 23 games doesn’t seem like the ideal solution for bolstering their squad.

Considering the limited time frame of a potential loan deal, with just four months to adapt to the English game, a 23-year-old player struggling for form might struggle to make an immediate impact at Ipswich Town.

Instead of pursuing this option, it might be wiser for Ipswich to focus on utilizing their current resources effectively or seeking out more cost-effective deals, such as cut-price transfers or loan agreements with clubs in the EFL or Premier League. This approach has already proven successful for them earlier in the transfer window.
